T.E.A.L.® providing funding for medical research study at Cedars Sinai Medical Center

Funding for medical research is an essential part of Tell Every Amazing Lady®’s mission in finding a screening test and a cure for ovarian cancer. T.E.A.L.® has chosen to contribute to the study “Combining epidemiologic and genetic risk to provide accurate and accessible comprehensive risk prediction for the prevention of ovarian cancer,” led by Michelle Jones, PhD, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

Early detection of ovarian cancer represents the strongest potential for preventing death from this lethal gynecologic malignancy. A woman’s risk for ovarian cancer is the result of both genetic and lifestyle factors, many of which are now identified. This study will combine known genetic and lifestyle risk factors for the first time, to identify a woman’s complete risk profile and provide guidance to caregivers as they select those women who require intervention or prevention strategies.

T.E.A.L.® funds medical research study at the University of Notre Dame

Tell Every Amazing Lady® has funded research at some of the country’s most prestigious hospitals and institutions. We are proud to announce funding for the study “Characterizing CA 125-antibody interactions using proteomics,” led by Professor Rebecca Whelan at the University of Notre Dame.

Professor Whelan proposes to explain what exactly is causing the most widely used blood test for ovarian cancer to fail for early detection. The commonly used test detects the cancer biomarker CA125 at specific points of contact (“epitopes”) that are currently unknown. They will characterize the epitopes on CA125 at which affinity reagents (“antibodies”) recognize and bind to CA125, the interaction that is the basis of the blood test. Identifying the epitopes of CA125 that are recognized in the existing blood test is a necessary step to developing the next generation test, one that displays more reliable recognition of CA125 and therefore enables ovarian cancer to be detected in an earlier, more treatable stage. Funds for this study were made possible by donations to the T.E.A.L.® Jane Fund.

Eight hundred male and female ethnically and socio-economically diverse participants residing in 51 of the 62 New York state counties completed the survey.

The findings were released in September, which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
