Actor and director Steve Buscemi films video for T.E.A.L.®

T.E.A.L.® was honored to again partner with actor and director Steve Buscemi to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. Mr. Buscemi filmed a video in August 2020 for our virtual 12th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run in which he encouraged people to register and get involved in the virtual event. South University cheers on Savannah Bananas at baseball game fundraiser

In Savannah, Georgia, South University T.E.A.L.® volunteers hosted a Savannah Bananas baseball night on July 17th, 2020. The purpose was to help raise awareness about ovarian cancer ahead of the fully virtual 7th Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run on September 26th, 2020. An announcement was made prior to the start of the game and the volunteers helped spread our message.

Tell Every Amazing Lady® receives grant from Investors Foundation

Tell Every Amazing Lady®, also known as T.E.A.L.®, received a $5,000 grant award from Investors Foundation. Investors Bank staff members presented the award to T.E.A.L.® staff members over Zoom on July 7th. 

Investors Bank created the Investors Foundation in 2005 to support the communities Investors Bank serves. Investors Foundation supports initiatives in the arts, youth development, health and human services, education and affordable housing. Learn more at investorsbankfoundation.org.

Maureen is T.E.A.L.®’s Volunteer of the Month

Meet Maureen, the T.E.A.L.®-nominated Volunteer of the Month for July!

She’s an Urban Academy student who was initially inspired to work with T.E.A.L.® due to her sister’s involvement with us. Maureen noticed her sister’s work and saw its potential as a great community service project.

Last September, she started helping in the T.E.A.L.® Community Center in Brooklyn.

She worked to organize the office, prepare the T.E.A.L.® newsletter for mailing, and pack T.E.A.L.® Kits for survivors.

T.E.A.L.®️ records ovarian cancer awareness presentation for Bronx House

T.E.A.L.®️ recorded a presentation about ovarian cancer for Bronx House on June 25th. The outreach event was posted on the Pelham Parkway organization’s YouTube and Facebook channel on June 30th. 

T.E.A.L.®️ CEO and co-founder Pamela Esposito-Amery gave a presentation about ovarian cancer, its signs and symptoms, as well as T.E.A.L.®️’s work raising awareness about the disease, supporting survivors, and raising funds to find a screening test. T.E.A.L.®️ Youth Ambassador Kiara spoke about her work with T.E.A.L.®️ to increase public awareness about ovarian cancer.

T.E.A.L.®️ participates in North Flatbush BID’s virtual music event

T.E.A.L.®️ participated in North Flatbush BID’s “Make Music New York Remote” digital event on June 21st! The event was hosted by North Flatbush BID through a Zoom meeting, and was live streamed to Facebook for the public to access.

Businesses along the Park Slope thoroughfare were invited to speak briefly about their business, which was then followed by a musical performance. 

T.E.A.L.®️ has long been a partner with North Flatbush BID and its businesses, turning the Brooklyn stretch teal by tying ribbons on trees ahead of September’s National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. We had the opportunity to speak about our mission to support survivors of ovarian cancer and educate the public about this disease. T.E.A.L.®️ Youth Ambassador Kiara spoke about her work with T.E.A.L.®️ to increase public awareness about ovarian cancer, including most recently making and donating ovarian cancer-themed masks to the foundation.

Women’s Health Webinar with RMA

On June 18th, 2020, T.E.A.L.® participated in an interactive webinar called “Empowering Yourself At Home: Proactive Women’s Health Practices.” The webinar included ways for attendees to care for their health at home with NYC’s leading doctors in cancer, genetics, and women’s health. The webinar was hosted by RMA New York and led by Matthew Lederman; M.D., Stephanie Blank, M.D.; and Pamela Esposito-Amery, T.E.A.L.® CEO and Co-Founder. The virtual event was live and recorded so that the public received information about cancer screenings, genetics, treatment options, and fertility.

Tell Every Amazing Lady® hosts virtual 2020 TCS New York City Marathon team meet up

Tell Every Amazing Lady® hosted a virtual meetup on June 13th for runners on its team in the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon. Several members on the team of 11 got to meet each other via Zoom. Running coach — and past T.E.A.L.® United Airlines NYC Half runner Kai Ng — attended to share advice and tips with the team. T.E.A.L.® staff provided the athletes with information on ovarian cancer, the foundation, and the marathon. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, New York Road Runners announced on June 24th that the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon is canceled.

LIU students are T.E.A.L.®’s Volunteers of the Month

Meet the Long Island University Genetic Counseling class of 2021, the T.E.A.L.®-nominated Volunteers of the Month for June!

The Masters students started as volunteers at the 11th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run in September 2019, then interned at  the T.E.A.L.® Community Center in Brooklyn. Several months later, when the COVID-19 crisis brought uncertainty and restricted work ability, the LIU students reconnected with T.E.A.L.®, supporting the ovarian cancer community as digital volunteers.

T.E.A.L.® and Sephora treat survivors to free virtual Brave Beauty class

Tell Every Amazing Lady® partnered with Sephora to offer a free virtual Brave Beauty class for ovarian cancer survivors on May 13th. Sephora generously mailed a free kit of makeup and skincare products to survivors to use during the class. Participants then learned about skincare and makeup techniques through the interactive and uplifting tutorial on Zoom. 

Members of the T.E.A.L.® Amazing Lady Membership were able to meet up for a fun makeup tutorial together on zoom thanks for Sephora!

Jane is T.E.A.L.®’s Volunteer of the Month

T.E.A.L.® hosts first World Ovarian Cancer Day Virtual Walk/Run

We had 195 participants raise over $5,000 in T.E.A.L.®’s first ever Virtual ONLY Walk/Run while walking or running safe at home or outside with social distancing in communities across the country! 

The event, called T.E.A.L.®’s World Ovarian Cancer Day Virtual Walk/Run, was held on May 8th – World Ovarian Cancer Day – to raise awareness about the disease and raise funds so we can continue our programs for ovarian cancer patients and survivors, which are in jeopardy due to COVID-19. Participants received a bib in the mail and were encouraged to post pictures and videos of their walk or run on social media and tag T.E.A.L.®. Participants also supported T.E.A.L.® by adding our Facebook frame to their profile pictures. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Podcast hosts help T.E.A.L.® spread awareness ahead of World Ovarian Cancer Day

A big thank you to our friends at If These Ovaries Could Talk, who mentioned T.E.A.L.® in their May 3rd podcast episode. Hosts Jaimie Kelton and Robin Hopkins told listeners that May 8th is World Ovarian Cancer Day, and mentioned facts about ovarian cancer, such as the fact that there is no effective screening test for the disease, and that the pap smear does not test for it.

Kendra Scott supports T.E.A.L.® with online fundraiser

Thanks to our volunteer Mandy, who helped establish the Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk, Kendra Scott has been raising funds for our cause throughout the year. An online fundraiser was held for Tell Every Amazing Lady® on April 25, 2020. Online shoppers could use a code during checkout to make sure T.E.A.L.® received 20 percent of the proceeds. Kendra Scott raised more than $200 for T.E.A.L.®!

T.E.A.L.® attends Gilda’s Club virtual oncology networking breakfast

Staff from Tell Every Amazing Lady® attended a virtual networking event hosted by Gilda’s Club on April 24th, 2020. The annual event, usually held at the center in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, moved to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event brings together nonprofits of the cancer community in a way to foster partnerships and better serve their communities.

Sephora is teaming up with the T.E.A.L.® Amazing Lady Membership Program to offer a free Virtual Brave Beauty Class for ovarian cancer survivors. The class will take place on May 13th, 2020, from 6 to 7pm EST. 
Connect with others in a fun, supportive setting and learn how to address the visible effects of cancer treatments from the comfort of home. T.E.A.L.® Staff Attend NYU fair and speak on podcast

Pamela Esposito Amery, CEO and co-founder of T.E.A.L.®, and Jordan Nissen, a nonprofit assistant and current NYU graduate student, met with students of the NYU School of Global Public Health in NOHO, Manhattan, on March 6th to spread awareness about the foundation’s mission, and meet potential volunteers, interns, and staff. Nissen spoke on the podcast “I am GPH” about T.E.A.L.®, what the foundation is looking for in a candidate, and gave advice to graduates looking for a job. It was a busy and exciting afternoon, filled with great discussions about T.E.A.L.®’s commitment to women’s health.

T.E.A.L.® teaches about ovarian cancer at ‘Rare Disease Day’ event

T.E.A.L.® shed light about ovarian cancer’s signs and symptoms at the Rare Disease Day event at Metropolitan Hospital in East Harlem on February 27th. T.E.A.L.® was asked to participate in the event to help educate about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, as well as the lack of a screening test for the disease. About 200 hospital staff, providers, patients, and visitors passed by the table and learned life-saving information about ovarian cancer.

T.E.A.L.® Youth Ambassador spreads awareness of ovarian cancer

T.E.A.L.® Youth Ambassador Kiara Carrion represented the foundation at Bronx House’s health fair on February 16th. The event at the community center in Pelham Parkway was held to help area residents know what services are available to them. About 75 people attended and learned about ovarian cancer and T.E.A.L.®’s services.

T.E.A.L.® attends Lions 20-K1 Mid-Winter Convention

T.E.A.L.® was a featured booth at the Lions District 20-K1 Mid-Winter Convention in, Douglaston, New York, on February 15th, 2020. T.E.A.L.® CEO Pamela was joined by Legacy Board Member and fellow Lion Lawrence Esposito to spread awareness about ovarian cancer to the hundreds of attendees of the The Mid-Winter Convention. Alive and Kickn’s Lynch Syndrome podcast

T.E.A.L.® CEO and co-founder Pamela Esposito-Amery spoke about Lynch Syndrome on Alive and Kickn’s podcast with host Dave Dubin on February 13.

She talked about her late sister Louisa’s ovarian cancer diagnosis, and how they turned it into Tell Every Amazing Lady® to help women and their families affected by the disease. She also spoke about the genetic testing she did after Louisa’s diagnosis, and how it led her to make informed decisions about her own health. Listen here.

T.E.A.L.® raises ovarian cancer awareness at Community Board meeting

T.E.A.L.® was invited to make a presentation on ovarian cancer to the board members of Community Board 9 in Queens, as well as the community members who attended on February 11th, 2020. Roughly 150 people attended the meeting at Woodhaven Manor Caterers and Banquets in Woodhaven, Queens. T.E.A.L.® gave out numerous educational materials and resources.

Samantha is T.E.A.L.®’s Volunteer of the Month

Meet Samantha, T.E.A.L.®’s nominated Volunteer of the Month for February!

Samantha has been a volunteer with T.E.A.L.® since 2016.

She has filmed a series of PSAs with T.E.A.L.®, and, as an event planner in Greenville, S.C., has worked with the volunteer team of Southern Gala to plan and execute many large events benefiting T.E.A.L.®, including several New Year’s Eve galas, a battle of the sexes bartending event, wine dinners, and more.

T.E.A.L.® wins first place in Bay Ridge Toyota Building a Better Brooklyn contest

T.E.A.L.® was the lucky first-place winner of the Building a Better Brooklyn contest, an online competition that saw three charities seek to rack up votes from supporters. T.E.A.L.® legacy board member Phyllis Bellocchio and CEO Pamela Esposito-Amery accepted a check for $1,500 at Bay Ridge Toyota on Sixth Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, on February 7.

T.E.A.L.® was chosen as one of three nonprofits to be featured in the contest. Staff members filmed three short videos to run across Bay Ridge Toyota’s social media channels from September to December — and urged followers to vote. Thank you to all T.E.A.L.® supporters for getting us to first place, and thank you Bay Ridge Toyota!

T.E.A.L.® speaks to students at service fair

T.E.A.L.® met and talked with high school students about volunteer opportunities with the foundation during the Medgar Evers College Preparatory School Service Fair in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on February 7th, 2020. It was also an opportunity to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. A big thank you to the National Honor Society Ujima Chapter at MECPS for inviting us and hosting this great event. 

T.E.A.L.® attends 2020 TCS New York City Marathon Charity Partner Forum

T.E.A.L.® attended the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon Charity Partner Forum on February 5th at the Harmonie Club in Midtown, Manhattan. 

The event is a way for the official charities to learn about the Charity Partner program, meet other charities, and hear information about the upcoming season. This is team Tell Every Amazing Lady®’s second year participating. Lions present donation to T.E.A.L.®

T.E.A.L.® Lions Committee Members, from left, Lion Pamela Taylor, Lion Jocelyn Matheson, Lion Yolande Cadore, Lion  Pamela Esposito-Amery, Lion Faye Carter, and Lion Audrey Julien of the 20-K1 Lions Club presented a donation of $500 at the T.E.A.L.® Community Center on February 4th 2020 for fundraising money raised by the Lions Committee.

AWARE partners with T.E.A.L.® for educational event in NYC

Tell Every Amazing Lady® staff participated in a panel discussion hosted by AWARE in Midtown, Manhattan, on Jan. 28th. The panel included T.E.A.L.® Program Manager Courtney Donahue-Taleporos, T.E.A.L.® Board member and board-certified genetic counselor Flora Poleshchuk, as well as Dr. Monica Prasad Hayes, a gynecological oncologist from Mount Sinai. The panel answered questions about ovarian cancer. Members of AWARE (Assisting Women through Action, Resources & Education) also filmed a short video explaining what they had learned from the discussion, and why it’s important to tell every lady about ovarian cancer. AWARE partners with one organization on a yearly cycle and supports the program’s mission via fundraising, awareness, and volunteerism in order to improve the lives of women and girls. In 2019, AWARE chose Tell Every Amazing Lady® as its charity partner.

T.E.A.L.® participates in Brooklyn College job fair

Tell Every Amazing Lady® attended the Brooklyn College Job Fair on Jan. 22 in Midwood, Brooklyn, to share with students the internship and volunteer opportunities available at T.E.A.L.®. T.E.A.L.® also displayed awareness cards to inform students and faculty about the signs, symptoms and risk factors of ovarian cancer.

Tell Every Amazing Lady® team in 2020 United Airlines NYC Half meet

Some runners on team Tell Every Amazing Lady® had the chance to meet each other on January 18 at the T.E.A.L.® Community Center in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Five of the 10 runners on team met in-person. The athletes were given some tips about the race from two runners who had participated on behalf of T.E.A.L.® before, as well as education on ovarian cancer and information about T.E.A.L.® from staff.

T.E.A.L.® Youth Ambassador competes in Miss New York Teen pageant

T.E.A.L.® Youth Ambassador Kiara competed in Miss New York Teen USA in Purchase, NY, from Jan 17 to 19 for her chance to represent New York in the Miss Teen USA pageant. Kiara made the top 10 out of 122 girls. She told everyone about T.E.A.L.® and ovarian cancer.

Boy Scouts sell flaps to benefit T.E.A.L.®

Greater New York Council, Boy Scouts of America’s Kintecoying Lodge 4 Order of the Arrow made and sold Lodge flaps in honor of T.E.A.L.®’s 10th Anniversary in January 2019.

Members Dave Coleman and Anthony Bracciante — who has been a volunteer of the foundation since its inception — paid for the manufacture of the flaps so that all of the $2,500 raised from the sale could be donated to T.E.A.L.®. Many members of the Boy Scouts have been volunteers at our events over the years and we thank them for their service hours to our foundation.

Meet Patsy, our Volunteer of the Month for January 2020!

Patsy has been volunteering with Tell Every Amazing Lady® since its inception. She helps as part of the stage crew at the Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run, and volunteers on the foundation’s board, currently serving as vice president. She also creates signage for the walk, and crafts amazing, one-of-a-kind butterflies, flowers, and more — adding a beautiful touch to all T.E.A.L.® events.

2020 New Year’s Gala Raises Funds for T.E.A.L.®

T.E.A.L.® supporter Samantha Radandt, along with B&R Events, hosted the New Year’s Eve 2020 Southern Gala in South Carolina to ring in the New Year while supporting T.E.A.L.®. Revelers walked the red carpet, enjoyed food and drinks, sipped champagne, and danced the night away at the Hilton Greenville on December 31st. The soiree raised over $5,000 for T.E.A.L.®.

T.E.A.L.® receives donation from Dime Community Bank

Tell Every Amazing Lady® CEO and Co-Founder Pamela Esposito-Amery and staff were presented with a check from Dime Community Bank for T.E.A.L.®’s participation in the Dime Gives Back social media campaign. Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager, Roxanne Benemerito presented the check for $1,000 on December 20. T.E.A.L.® participated in the November campaign, urging supporters to take photos of themselves saying what they were thankful for and tagging T.E.A.L.® and #DimeGivesBack. Dime Bank tallied up how many posts mentioned Tell Every Amazing Lady®, and then donated the funds raised.

Kendra Scott supports T.E.A.L.® with fundraiser

Kendra Scott hosted a fundraiser for Tell Every Amazing Lady® at its store in the SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, N.C., on December 14th, treating shoppers to refreshments and donating 20 percent of proceeds to T.E.A.L.®. The store also offered an amazing deal to those out of state or unable to attend — they could call in to the store the day before to pick their items and have them shipped for free, while still benefiting T.E.A.L.®. Kendra Scott donated $1,500 to T.E.A.L.®.

New Year’s Eve 2020 Southern Gala

T.E.A.L.®’s amazing volunteer, Samantha Radandt, along with B&R Events, is hosting a New Year’s Eve 2020 Southern Gala in South Carolina to help ring in the New Year while supporting our cause. The event (this year with a Gatsby twist!) will take place on December 31st. Tickets are $110 for general admission, $150 for VIP admission. Part of the proceeds will be donated to T.E.A.L.®.
