T.E.A.L®, in partnership with the Queens ½ Marathon and NYCRuns, had a table during packet and bib pickup on November 16th and 17th, 2017. T.E.A.L® was able to speak with both Queens ½ runners and general customers at Paragon Sports educating the public about T.E.A.L®’s mission and programs, as well as upcoming ways for runners to get involved with T.E.A.L®. On November 16th, 2017, T.E.A.L® held an online webinar. It was hosted by T.E.A.L.® scientific advisory board member Dr. Dennis Chi of Memorial Sloan Kettering Center in New York, NY. Dr. Chi spoke about surgical options for recurrent ovarian cancer patients. Focusing in particular on a study done in Germany, the efficacy of this trial was discussed as well as a Q&A with Dr. Chi about different options for recurrent Ovarian Cancer patients. On November 28th, 2017, T.E.A.L® will be holding their annual T.E.A.L.® Holiday Open House in honor of #GivingTuesday which is a national day where people come together and promote giving back to local and national causes. On Thursday, November 9th, 2017, T.E.A.L® visited Medgar Evers College Preparatory School for a presentation about ways to get involved with T.E.A.L®’s work. The event was organized by the National Honor Society Club and a T.E.A.L® representative provided pamphlets with information on ovarian cancer and gave an educational presentation about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of ovarian cancer. The presentation also explained T.E.A.L®’s mission to spread awareness about ovarian cancer and fund medical research towards finding a cure, as well as all all the different programs and events we have available for students interested in internships or service hours. Thank you Medgar Evers Prep and National Honor Society club for having us and allowing us to share valuable information about ovarian cancer!

On Saturday, April 21st, 2018, we’re hosting T.E.A.L.®’s “10 Years of Amazing” Gala at the Brooklyn Museum. On Friday, November 3rd, 2017, T.E.A.L® participated in New York University’s Global Public Health Career Fair. T.E.A.L® had a table set up and handed out flyers and brochures containing information about the signs, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options for ovarian cancer. We also provided students there with information about what T.E.A.L® does as an organization and the steps we take to spread awareness and raise money for medical research, and what they can do to get involved and support our cause.
T.E.A.L® will have a presence at the upcoming 4th annual NYCRUNS Queens Half Marathon, taking place on Saturday, November 18th, 2017. Look out for our T.E.A.L.® water station during the run! We’ll also be there handing out awareness materials to educate the crowds that day. We are still in need of volunteers for this event! Previously nominated as Miss Golden Gate, Sarah is excited to continue to represent California on a larger scale, as well as continuing to advance in pageantry. On Saturday, October 29th, 2017, T.E.A.L® participated at the College Fair and Career Day at the First Baptist Church of Crown Heights, with over a hundred participants present. The event was organized to help provide information to college students regarding education and career opportunities. The fair included presentations given by colleges and community members, a financial aid workshop, a variety of tables from different schools and organizations, a speech from author Jean Alerte, performances from the No Nonsense Step Team, and a complimentary lunch. T.E.A.L® talked to students about our internship and volunteering opportunities, our Youth Ambassador Program, and information about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of ovarian cancer.
T.E.A.L.® attended a job and internship fair at St Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017. There were students and community members at the fair, and T.E.A.L.® provided more information about the work that Tell Every Amazing Lady® is doing and how to get involved through internships or volunteering.
On October 26th, 2017, T.E.A.L.® had the opportunity to present a lecture to a class of nursing assistant students at the Brooklyn Adult Learning Center, also known as BALC, about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of ovarian cancer and spread awareness about this deadly disease.
On October 23rd, 2017, T.E.A.L® held their very first online webinar hosted by T.E.A.L.® scientific advisory board member Dr.Sharyn Lewin of Holy Name Medical Center located in New Jersey. Dr.Lewin spoke about the importance of genetic testing for gynecologic cancers, the role of panel testing- beyond just BRCA testing, the implications for treatment based on genetic status, as well as a Q&A with Dr.Lewin. On October 21st, amazing lady Rose Kardashian, owner of Loosey Goosey Couture, participated in the Montclair Pop-up Harvest Market in Montclair, NJ. On Friday, October 20th, 2017, T.E.A.L® attended a career fair at Brooklyn College in which representatives connected with students about different opportunities available at T.E.A.L® such as internships, volunteer positions, and the T.E.A.L.® Youth Ambassador program. T.E.A.L® also answered general questions about the organization’s mission and our community outreach events and programs. T.E.A.L.® is excited to announce that Sarah Dahdouh is now a T.E.A.L.® Youth Ambassador! Sarah recently graduated college, having studied psychology & pre-medical studies at UCLA. Throughout her academic career, Sarah has dedicated lots of her time volunteering and working in community service. Sarah’s volunteer work ranges from volunteering at the UCLA medical center, raising money for Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), and participating in a service trip to Nicaragua. She has been awarded four Presidential Community Service Awards and the Girl Scouts’ Gold Award. Beyond volunteering, Sarah also competes in beauty pageants and has a passion for singing. On Saturday, October 14, 2017, T.E.A.L® attended the Bushwick Health Fair at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. T.E.A.L.® CEO Pamela Esposito-Amery gave a presentation on the risks of ovarian cancer and T.E.A.L.®’s mission. T.E.A.L.® provided vital information to the community about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of ovarian cancer. The fair also featured booths providing information about health insurance options, medicaid rights, healthy lifestyles, and free flu shots plus cholesterol screenings were provided to attendees. On Thursday, October 12th, 2017, T.E.A.L® visited Brooklyn College for an Ovarian Cancer Awareness Workshop. On October 7th, 2017, T.E.A.L.® was invited to the Bergen Beach Ovarian and Breast Cancer awareness softball tournament in Brooklyn, New York. The tournament was hosted by the Bergen beach Youth Organization and consisted of 20 softball teams all with players under 16. T.E.A.L.® was invited by John Wren, the coach of the Brooklyn Cyclones 12U Girls Fastpitch Softball Team. The 12U Girls Fastpitch team not only won the tournament, but did so while wearing our T.E.A.L.® shirts! Special thanks to Debbie and John for inviting us to the tournament to raise awareness about ovarian cancer within the Bergen Beach community.
On October 5th, 2017, T.E.A.L.® attended the State of the Art Ovarian Cancer Conference at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Zuckerman Research Center in New York, NY. The event provided information to health care professionals and community groups about medical innovations related to ovarian cancer with the goal of advancing the prevention, testings, and treatment for patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The conference featured keynote speakers from the field, as well as discussing new surgical innovations related to ovarian cancer. Two doctors from the T.E.A.L.® Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. Chi and Dr. Zivanovic, were presenters at the event, educating the community & interacting with fellow healthcare advocates.
The Peveraro family, in partnership with T.E.A.L.®, established the Jane Peveraro Fund in order to develop universal testing for Ovarian Cancer. Jane was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer in 2011 at the age of 55. With no genetic history, and in good health, Jane and her family were shocked by this diagnosis. After going through 28 months of chemo, recurrences, and more chemo, Jane lost her fight against the disease in 2013. On Thursday, September 28th, 2017, the 3rd Annual Girls Night Out “Pink & Teal” event was held at Milk River in Brooklyn, NY. This event aimed to raise awareness about both breast and ovarian cancer, as well as to honor survivors and those who have dedicated their efforts to finding a cure. It was another fun and successful event. Presentations were made by survivors, and representatives from local organizations including T.E.A.L.® co-founder Pamela Esposito-Amery. Pamela was surprised with awards from state senator Kevin Parker and the New York City Council recognizing her work towards promoting health care, education and research for Ovarian Cancer survivors and patients. A particularly special moment was when one of our Amazing ladies, Donnette James, presented a quilt that was made in honor of Donnette on stage with Pamela. This quilt will be hung and displayed at the T.E.A.L.® Community Center. Special thanks to Timothy Marshall Events and S.W.A.G. (Sisters with a Goal) for an absolutely incredible night that raised $1,000!

On September 28th, 2017, T.E.A.L.®’s CEO Pamela Esposito-Amery was presented the gift of “Donnette’s Quilt” on stage from amazing lady Donnette James and Timothy Marshall at the 3rd Annual Girls Night Out “Pink & Teal” event in Brooklyn, New York. Donnette is a survivor of Ovarian Cancer and became involved with T.E.A.L.® through T.E.A.L.®’s survivor program and workshops. Family and friends came together to create the quilt in tribute of Donnette and her brave battle with Ovarian Cancer. This beautiful quilt will be displayed at the T.E.A.L.® community center, located at 533 16th St, Brooklyn, NY.

Theodora Blanchfield, also known as the “Preppy Runner”, recently published a piece about the importance of knowing the early signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Also known as the “silent killer”, ovarian cancer will claim 14,000 women’s lives this year alone. Only 15 percent of cases are caught at Stage 1. As Theodora reminds readers “knowing the risk factors and signs can help you make important lifestyle and screening choices that can help reduce your risk.” The article discusses different ways to assess risk, as well as currently available treatments for those recently diagnosed. There is a video of Theodora and her mother discussing their journey from diagnosis through treatment- and the importance of an active lifestyle. One of the ways both mother and daughter would stay active was by participating in the T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run each year! On September 27th, Yankees Manager Mr Joseph Girardi spoke with the press about Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, but first spoke about a cause close to his heart-Tell Every Amazing Lady.®. He described the founding of T.E.A.L.® and the need for an organization focused on Ovarian Cancer, as well as spending time raising awareness about the need for early detection, since when caught early, 92% of diagnoses can have a 5 year survival rate. This was part of Joseph’s initiative to raise awareness for a host of different organizations in the NYC metro area. Each week, he will wear a different charity’s shirt, and return the shirt with an autograph to encourage fundraising. About this initiative, he says “There are a lot of organizations that deserve recognition and help because they’re helping others, so if you can bring some light to their cause, and it tugs on somebody’s heart, it’s a good thing.”
T.E.A.L.® partnered with FemGyn for National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, decorating their window and tree outside their Park Slope, Brooklyn location with teal ribbon to raise awareness throughout the month of September, as well as hosting an event on September 23rd at FemGyn. Organizers of this ovarian cancer awareness event hoped to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, as well as the resources available to Park Slope residents . Guests spoke about their family’s experience with ovarian cancer, and afterwards T.E.A.L.® tabled on 7th Avenue, providing passerby with awareness materials, more information about the event, and how to get involved with T.E.A.L.®.
The First Baptist Church of Crown Heights held their 2nd Annual Cancer Awareness day on September 23rd. T.E.A.L.® attended along with representatives from SHARE, Gilda’s Club, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, and NYU Langone Cancer Center. The event was created, as stated by First Baptist, because “Our community is in crisis because we don’t have the conversations or information that we need. Everyone has been or will be affected by this disease.” Representatives spoke about different services offered by their organization and how individuals could be affected by cancer. T.E.A.L.® staff member Sabina Braverman spoke about the origins of T.E.A.L.®, our workshop program, and the different components of our work- building a community, funding research, and educating every amazing lady. Attendees were then encouraged to visit tables and learn more about each organization and how to get involved.
The 4th Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk in Georgia took place at Lake Mayer Track on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017. Special thanks to Monica and Lydia of Kappa Psi-Delta Omega Fraternity at South University for organizing the event. This walk was intended to spread awareness, courage, and strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease while spreading knowledge and raising funds for research for a cure. Participants had a fun and inspiring day with activity booths, ceremonies, and a T.E.A.L.® Walk, and over $12,000 was raised!
Femgyn, gynecological urgent care based in Brooklyn, is busy supporting National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in many ways. They’ve tied teal ribbon on their tree and dedicated a window to campaign for Ovarian Cancer funds through “Tell Every Amazing Lady” and are hosting an event on September 23rd. Femgyn supports T.E.A.L.® in every way by spreading awareness to the community around them as well as encouraging donations towards this important cause.
T.E.A.L.® wants to give a special shout out to amazing lady Marianne Sheldon, captain of the “Landings Friends Against Ovarian Cancer” (L.F.A.O.C.) team for the Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk. for promoting this year’s walk in the magazine This Week at the Landings. Not only did Marianne publicize the walk within her community, but L.F.A.O.C. were the winners of the top fundraising team and raised the most out of all the teams. On Wednesday, September 20th, 2017, P.S. 164 Caesar Rodney, a public elementary school in Brooklyn, held a special Dress Down Day fundraiser. Students were encouraged to wear teal and bring in a donation in support of ovarian cancer awareness and research. A group of Amazing Ladies and mothers attended a morning workshop educating about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. The fundraiser was a success, raising $470! The Myrtle Avenue Bid have been fighting ovarian cancer with us all month this September! They helped us by allowing us to participate in their outdoor Community Corner event and had bicyclist wear teal during their Community Bike Ride. They also had a team (pictured below) in our 9th Annual T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run. On Wednesday, September 13th, 2017, Myrtle Ave. turned teal to support National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and T.E.A.L.® Partnered with the Myrtle Ave Business Improvement District (BID). We tied teal ribbons on trees that will be up all month along Myrtle Ave in Brooklyn to spread awareness of ovarian cancer. Special thanks to the Myrtle Avenue BID team and our volunteers for all their help.
On September 16th, 2017, the 4th Annual Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk in Connecticut took place at White Memorial Conservation Center. Special thanks to Hope Assembly #46, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, for hosting another incredible event. This walk aims to encourage awareness, courage, and strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease while spreading knowledge and raising funds for research for a cure! Participants of our Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk enjoyed the day of entertainment along with activity booths and fun activities for the whole family.
On Saturday, September 16th, 2017, T.E.A.L® attended the District 20-K1 Lions T.E.A.L.® Committee Luncheon at the New Life Center of Truth Church in Brooklyn, NY. All proceeds from the lunch went towards Ovarian Cancer research. The event was filled with music, food, and speakers including our co-founder Pamela who gave a short educational lecture. On September 15th, 2017, Dwell-Greenville joined forces with B&R events to host a fundraiser benefitting T.E.A.L.® in Greenville, South Carolina. The fundraiser took place at Grenville bar The 05 with guest bartenders present, a DJ, and amazing prizes raffled off. We thank everyone who participated in the event and allowing us to continue our mission of spreading awareness about ovarian cancer and raise money for medical research- over $600 was raised!
On September 14th, 2017, T.E.A.L.® held a Re-Grand Opening of our T.E.A.L.® Ovarian Cancer Community Center expansion. In 2015, T.E.AL.® moved into 533 16th Street, building an office space into a community center from the ground up. Now, our office space has expanded! Conveniently located right next door to the community center, we remain rooted in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In honor of our Re-Grand Opening and to celebrate Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the windows were lit teal and volunteers and supporters were invited to learn more about T.E.AL.®’s growth as an organization and our plans for the future. We would like to give a very special thank you to Mr. Buscemi for all he has done to support T.E.A.L® in the past year. He helped us promote our 9th annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L® Walk/Run, our 4th annual Savannah T.E.A.L® Walk, our 4th annual Litchfield T.E.A.L® Walk, and our 3rd annual Whitesboro T.E.A.L® Walk, by participating in a PSA for each T.E.A.L.® Walk.
