Giving Tuesday Celebrations

On November 29th, 2016, T.E.A.L.® hosted a Holiday Open House to celebrate the countdown of Giving Tuesday with survivors, volunteers, and staff. There were raffles, giveaways, trivia games and awards were given to recognize our volunteers. Because of all of you, T.E.A.L.® successfully raised a total of $1,676. Thank you everyone for your generosity and support on Giving Tuesday. Big thank you to Hint Water, David’sTea and Windsor Cafe for supplying all of the snacks and refreshments for the Open House. 2017 Miss Greater NYC Scholarship Pageant

On November 12th, 2016 T.E.A.L.® co-founder, Pamela was invited to be a judge for the 2017 Miss Greater NYC Scholarship Pageant. While there, Pamela connected with many empowering women. She also used the opportunity to spread information about Ovarian Cancer signs, symptoms, and risk factors. On Friday, November 11, 2016, Lu Bella Boutique hosted an all day shopping event where 10% of each purchase was donated to T.E.A.L.®. Lu Bella is a fashion forward boutique that offers great items for yourself and for holiday shopping, allowing you to treat yourself while shopping for a cause. Harvard GlobalWE Women’s Empowerment Expo

On Friday November 4th, 2016, T.E.A.L.® participated in the Women’s Empowerment Expo at Harvard University to kick off Harvard Alumni Association’s Women’s Weekend. T.E.A.L.® intern, Audrey arranged an Awareness table to help raise awareness for ovarian cancer and the T.E.A.L.® foundation. Thank you Harvard GlobalWE for having us at this amazing event!

On November 2nd, 2016, T.E.A.L.®’s board and staff were invited to join experts from Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center at the Harvard Club of New York for a seminar about immunotherapy. T.E.A.L.® loves to stay informed about cutting edge ovarian cancer medical research and learned a lot from this seminar.

Miss New York Junior Teen America

With Ovarian Cancer as her platform, Miss New York Jr. Teen America 2016 and T.E.A.L.® Volunteer, Kiara Carrion, has helped promote T.E.A.L.®’s mission for Ovarian Cancer awareness. This Amazing lady has supported us by volunteering in our T.E.A.L.® community center and at various events including Health Fairs, our Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk, and Opening of the New York Stock Exchange. T.E.A.L.® visits the Museum of the Moving Image

On October 27, 2016, the T.E.A.L® Foundation took a trip to Astoria to visit the Museum of the Moving Image for the Art of Thriving conference which was offered to non profits in the NYC area. Special thanks to Investors Bank for inviting T.E.A.L.® to this amazing, educational event.

Annual BC Alpha Sigma Zeta Sorority Workshop

On October 25 2016, the Brooklyn College Alpha Sigma Zeta Sorority, long time supporters and volunteers of T.E.A.L.®  partnered with the organization once again for the Annual Women’s Health Workshop which focuses on early detection of Breast and Ovarian Cancer.

Annual Brooklyn College Internship and Job Fair

On October 21, 2016, T.E.A.L.® participated in an Internship and Job fair at Brooklyn College. T.E.A.L.® was able to connect with students and provide guidance and internship opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in non-profit management and other related fields. T.E.A.L.® also used the opportunity to spread information to students about Ovarian Cancer signs, symptoms, and risk factors.

Peck’s Homemade on Myrtle Avenue Supports T.E.A.L.®

Peck’s Homemade joined forces with T.E.A.L.® this past September to spread awareness about Ovarian Cancer during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the T.E.A.L.® September Awareness Campaign. Located at 455A Myrtle Ave, Brooklyn, NY, Peck’s Homemade additionally showed support by pledging a portion of proceeds raised from an amazing special of Teal & White Cookies, a clever twist on the classic Blank & White Cookies in honor of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, made exclusively during the month of September. Their collaborative effort helped spread awareness within their community as well as raised $800 to further research and awareness programs. A Special Thank You to Peck’s Homemade for their AMAZING support!

South Carolina Fundraisers

One of T.E.A.L.®’s amazing volunteers , Samantha Radandt and B&R Events helped spread T.E.A.L.®’s message in upstate South Carolina. Samantha with help from Maggie Maher, hosted two amazing events to help raise funds for T.E.A.L.®. While doing this, Samantha also held an online fundraiser as well. One fundraiser was held on September 16th, 2016 at Gringo’s Bar with special guest bartenders Meteroloist Ted Phaeton, Ryan Heafy, Charles Russ, and Josh Royston. The other fundraiser, a Southern Gala TEAL Soiree was held on October 19th, 2016 at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Downtown Greenville. Thank you to Jenny Hawkins from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse for letting them use your space and JHM Hotels for donating the wine! In total, Samantha was able to raise a grand total of $2400. Thank you so much Samantha for all that you do!

 

2nd Annual Whitesboro T.E.A.L.® Walk in New York

The 2nd Annual Whitesboro T.E.A.L.® Walk in New York took place on Saturday, September 10th, 2016 (9/10/16) at Whitestown Town Park. This T.E.A.L.® Walk was a great success, surpassing its original fundraising goal and raising over $10,000 for Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Research programs. We want to especially thank our organizer Sarah Firsching. This event included activity booths, Survivor Ceremony, exercise warm up, T.E.A.L.® Walk and more. Marketing Guest Professor for the Day at Brooklyn College

T.E.A.L.® CEO, Pamela Esposito-Amery was invited to present as a guest professor on October 18, 2016 for an Advertising in Non-Profit lecture to members of the Brooklyn College Marketing Society and other students and faculty.  Pamela provided insight on advertising, starting a non-profit, social media, event planning, internship opportunities in addition to promoting awareness about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer. 3rd Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk in Georgia

The 3rd Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk in Georgia took place on Saturday, September 24th, 2016 at Lake Mayer Track. This T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run was a great success, surpassing its original fundraising goal and raising over $40,000! We want to especially thank our sponsor Toyota (#ToyotaLovesTeal) as well as our organizers Carina McCrea and Samantha Powell from  Kappa Psi-Delta Omega Fraternity at South University. Faith, Love, Believe: The Cure for Cancer Ovarian Breast Cancer Workshop

On October 13, 2016, T.E.A.L.® CEO Pamela Esposito and Pre-med BC Alumna & T.E.A.L.® staff member Melissa Belasoto presented at Brooklyn College at the Tie the Ribbons: Breast and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Event. Through their joint lecture, these ladies promoted awareness about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer in addition to sharing informational resources to Brooklyn College attendees and support to students touched by Ovarian Cancer. Pamela, received a Certificate of Appreciation from Brooklyn College Health Programs in the Division of Student Affairs. Special thank you to the Department of Health Services/ Immunization Requirements Office – Division of Student affairs for inviting T.E.A.L.®

8th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run

On September 10th, 2016, the 8th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run took place in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Over 2,000 people were in attendance. Thank you to participants, volunteers, special guests,  survivors, and families who helped us celebrate 8 years of awareness, courage, and the strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease. This event included a 5K Run, Free Yoga, booth activities, Stage Performances and Activities, a 5K Run Award Ceremony,  the Annual T.E.A.L.® Survivor Ceremony, and of course the T.E.A.L.® Walk. This event was a huge success spreading knowledge about ovarian cancer, and raised $244,312 for medical research and awareness programs.

Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® 5K Run

Annually, the Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® 5K Run takes place in Prospect Park, Brooklyn NY during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. About 500 runners participate every year with special prizes awarded to the fastest overall top three male and female 5K runners.These AMAZING winners receive medals and assorted prizes every year on Prospect Park’s Bandshell Stage. In addition to the overall top 6 runners, run medals by 7 age group categories are awarded every year to our special 5K Run winners. These age groups range from 7yrs-70 yrs. All of our runners are AMAZING! Thank you for all of your support and running for our cause! Don’t forget to join our T.E.A.L.® Brooklyn 5K Run in September 2017 in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and to check the 5K Run booth following the 2017 race to see if YOU qualified for a 5K Run medal.

Annual Milk River Fundraiser and Awareness Event

On Thursday, September, 29, 2016, the Annual Marshall Gras Entertainment’s “Girl’s Night Out” Ladies Night concert took place at Milk River in Brooklyn, where all of the ladies in attendance were serenaded by a talented and dynamic ensemble of up and coming R & B artists as well as helping to raise funds for Ovarian and Breast cancer awareness.  Marshall Gras Entertainment favorites J’Sun, finalist from NBC’S The Voice, Kenny Dark Apollo live winners Venor and J’maine Jones, Ayden George and reggae and soca vocalist Bud Ramsay all participated! This event was a great success raising $750 for T.E.A.L.® Ovarian Cancer medical research and awareness programs. Special thank you to Timothy Marshall for organizing an Amazing annual event.

T.E.A.L.® NY Culinary Tech Center Bake Sale

On September 27th, 2016 at 12pm,  Culinary Tech Center (460 West 34th St between 33rd and 34th st) hosted a Bake Sale! This event was a success raising $745.00. Proceeds will go towards T.E.A.L.® research & awareness programs. Thank you to everyone who came out to support this gourmet bake sale for a cause!

3rd Annual Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk in Connecticut

The 3rd Annual Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk in Connecticut took place at Litchfield Community Field  on Saturday, September 24th, 2016 (9/24/16). This event was successful raising over $4,800.00 surpassing its fundraising goal. This marked the third year of awareness, courage, and the strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease. We want to specially thank our organizers Hope Assembly #46. This event included activity booths, stage announcements, T.E.A.L.® Walk and more. Atria Tinton Falls T.E.A.L.® Event in NJ

On Saturday September 24th, 2016, a Tinton Falls T.E.A.L.® Walk took place in Tinton Falls, New Jersey at Atria Senior and Assisted Living. This event included live entertainment from the Florian Schantz Jazz Combo, food & refreshments, a short walk portion for Atria residents and their families. TOYOTA loves T.E.A.L.®

T.E.A.L.® partnered with Toyota for the 3rd Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk in 2016. Through a customized sponsorship opportunity, Toyota created a co-branded campaign to help T.E.A.L.® spread awareness while supporting participants of the walk.

For the T.E.A.L.® Toyota Roadtrip, 5 individuals including survivors, organizers and participants as well as co-founder, Pamela Esposito-Amery were able to drive five Toyota Rav4’s decorated with custom co-branded T.E.A.L.® logos into Savannah from three different states including Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia.

For the accomplishment of reaching the finish line, Toyota brought in tents and caterers for the T.E.A.L.® Toyota Tailgate Celebration, which consisted of a southern style brunch and entertainment including an appearance from Sonny Digital’s manager Rico Brooks. Regional Director of Toyota, Michael Esposito was also there to present a check to T.E.A.L.® to support Ovarian Cancer research and awareness programs. Toyota also supported the raffle and T.E.A.L.® Survivor Ceremony with prizes and awards.

To help promote the 3rd Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk, Toyota created the co-branded logo and hashtag #ToyotaLovesTeal as well as co-branded swag items and a step & repeat photo booth. The campaign included social media influencers who helped further spread the message. This amazing collaboration also resulted in an official Toyota Loves T.E.A.L.® promotional video. Check it out here.

2016 T.E.A.L.® September Awareness Campaign

During September, which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, T.E.A.L.® partners with local businesses and organizations to turn New York City and beyond teal to spread awareness about Ovarian Cancer. The goals of this campaign are to spread awareness of the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer, to educate communities about the importance of early detection, to provide support to Ovarian Cancer survivors, and to generate funds for further research to find a cure and a screening test for this disease.

 

In additional to locally based awareness endeavors, T.E.A.L.®’s September Awareness Campaign continues to grow each year.  Nationally, T.E.A.L.® turns cities across the USA teal through our satellite T.E.A.L.® walks and runs and other awareness events. Globally, T.E.A.L.® spreads awareness by participating in opening bell ceremonies with global reach including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) (2016) and NASDAQ (2015) in addition to other global awareness activities.

Savannah Tea Party

On September 18th, 2016, a group of our T.E.A.L.® volunteers in Savannah, Georgia helped T.E.A.L.® with Ovarian Cancer outreach at the 4th Annual Teal Tea Party “Alice in Wonderland” Teal Eyes Through the Looking Glass” for Gynecological Awareness Cancer Month. Hosted by our friends at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St. Joseph’s/Candler, this tea party honored and celebrated women affected by gynecological cancer and also included a Fashion Show by Dress Barn & Chicos.

Nefertiti Dance-A-Thon

On September 17th, 2016, Sisters of Delta Sigma Chi Sorority, Inc. hosted a Dance-A-Thon Fundraiser in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer research for the T.E.A.L.® Foundation. This fundraiser took place at Ripley-Grier Studios in Manhattan and raised $250. Additional donations can be made directly to this page!

 

T.E.A.L.® West Virginia March to the State Capitol

On September 17th, 2016, a T.E.A.L.® West Virginia March to the State Capitol took place in Charleston, WV. Organized by Karen Glazier and her husband James, this event raised awareness for Ovarian Cancer research and awareness programs by inviting the local Charleston  community to march and take a stand against Ovarian Cancer. This event is one of many ways volunteers from across the country are working with T.E.A.L.®. Inspired by Karen and James’ event and want to organize your own? Kappa Psi-Delta Omega Fraternity Award

Congratulations to the volunteer event organizers of our Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk from the Kappa Psi-Delta Omega Fraternity at the South University School of Pharmacy. On September 16, 2016, two of these volunteers: Carina McCrea and Samantha Powell, received the Professional Fraternity Association’s Outstanding National Community Service Award for their hard work in spreading Ovarian Cancer awareness and fundraising for a cure. These students were specifically honored for their participation in Savannah’s 2015 T.E.A.L® Walk. Doctor of pharmacy 2016 graduate and Kappa Psi member, Mandy Irvin spearheaded the inaugural Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk event in 2014. Inspired by her aunt’s battle with the disease and with the support of her fellow Kappa Psi members, Irvin raised four times the donations that her first event generated. All events included walk registrations, T-shirt sales, a silent auction and other events including health screenings provided by South University School of Pharmacy students and a donation of comfort care items for cancer patients donated by members of Kappa Psi. Amazing Lady Marianne Sheldon

There are many creative ways our Team Captains get others involved with T.E.A.L.®! Special shout out to Marianne Sheldon, Team Captain of L.F.A.O.C. at the Annual T.E.A.L.® Walk in Savannah, Georgia who published an article in her gated community’s weekly magazine called the TWATL (This Week at the Landings). She submitted an article in last year to thank everyone who came out for the Walk and in 2016, she put in another article inviting her community to join her. Mississippi Awareness Day

On September 15th, 2016, Psi Gamma Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, at Mississippi Valley State University arranged an Awareness table on campus  in their efforts to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer and the T.E.A.L.® Foundation. Annual Press Conference & Lighting of Brooklyn Borough Hall

On Wednesday, September 7th, 2016, there was a  ®T.E.A.L. Press Conference at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Speeches were made by Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, our T.E.A.L.® CEO Pamela Esposito-Amery, Council Member Rafael Espinal, and Council Member Laurie Cumbo. Brooklyn Borough Hall was lit teal for a week in September to raise awareness about National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.

For the second year in a row for a few days starting on September 1st, to kick off Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Luna Park’s iconic Parachute Jump in Coney Island Brooklyn will be lit teal in support of T.E.A.L® and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. There was a press conference which included remarks by local Councilman Mark Treyger and Assemblywoman Pamela Harris followed by a lighting ceremony. The beautiful teal color was seen from afar and helped ®T.E.A.L continue its efforts in spreading awareness. T.E.A.L.® volunteers, supporters, Survivors, and families touched by Ovarian Cancer helped make this event truly Amazing.

 

September Awareness Campaign

T.E.A.L.® made great strides in drawing public attention to National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month thanks to its 2016 T.E.A.L.® September Awareness Campaign. T.E.A.L.® partnered with ®Turn The Towns Teal which provided ribbons to decorate trees in cities and towns across the United States. T.E.A.L.® joined forces with local businesses, schools and organizations in NYC and beyond to spread awareness about this disease by posting information in their storefronts and placing T.E.A.L.® Bows on the doors and trees in front of their establishments.

Throughout the month of September, some businesses also supported our efforts by running specials or other promotions to help us draw attention to this disease. We also continued our annual tradition of lighting buildings and monuments the color teal with a new addition of NYC’s City Hall! Plus, T.E.A.L.® celebrated the courage of Ovarian Cancer survivors and the strength of the families who’ve been touched by the disease, while spreading awareness to the public during the Annual T.E.A.L.® Walk/ Runs for Ovarian Cancer in many cities across the USA. Brooklyn Reporter Recognizes Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

On September 1st, 2016, a T.E.A.L.® Press Conference will be held to announce T.E.A.L.® will be lighting the Parachute Jump at Luna Park in Coney Island the color Teal again for a few days in September for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month for the second year in a row. Join us from 7pm to 8pm. The lighting will take place at sundown (7:30pm). Jackalicious Zumba

On Friday August 12, 2016, Team Jackalicious danced for T.E.A.L.® by hosting a Zumbathon Fundraiser in Staten Island (Move Me Dance & Fitness Studio- 4 Gifford Ln). This event included Zumba classes, raffles prizes, and more. All proceeds from this event went towards Team Jackalicious for the 8th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run. This event was successful in raising over $900!

South Carolina Event

On Sunday August 28th, WYFF New’s 4 Myra Ruiz interviewed T.E.A.L.® Volunteer Samantha Benamati Radandt. Samantha shared her personal scare with Ovarian Cancer on the show including her signs & symptoms. She also explained how she is raising awareness through the Southern Gala’s TEAL Soiree on September 9th, 2016 in South Carolina.  She’s offering a $10 discount on tickets if you use the code WYFF. Team Octavia 2nd Annual Ovarian Cancer Fundraiser

On Saturday, August 27, 2016, Team Octavia hosted their 2nd Annual Ovarian Cancer Fundraiser at Sweet Science (135 Graham Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11206). This Brunch Event included a pre-fix menu featuring dishes created by Home Cook Chamel Robertson & Head Chef Milton from @Sweet Science with a set two-course meal & mimosa. This event was a success raising $420.00 for T.E.A.L.® awareness & medical research programs to help find a cure for Ovarian Cancer. Team Octavia was able to raise a grand total of $1,130.
