4th Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk

The 4th Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk in Georgia took place at Lake Mayer Track on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017. Special thanks to Monica and Lydia of Kappa Psi-Delta Omega Fraternity at South University for organizing the event. This walk was intended to spread awareness, courage, and strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease while spreading knowledge and raising funds for research for a cure. Participants had a fun and inspiring day with activity booths, ceremonies, and a T.E.A.L.® Walk, and over $12,000 was raised!

FemGyn Fighting Ovarian Cancer

Femgyn, gynecological urgent care based in Brooklyn, is busy supporting National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in many ways. They’ve tied  teal ribbon on their tree and dedicated a window to campaign for Ovarian Cancer funds through “Tell Every Amazing Lady” and are hosting an event on September 23rd. Femgyn supports T.E.A.L.® in every way by spreading awareness to the community around them as well as encouraging donations towards this important cause.

The Amazing Marianne Sheldon

T.E.A.L.® wants to give a special shout out to amazing lady Marianne Sheldon, captain of the “Landings Friends Against Ovarian Cancer” (L.F.A.O.C.) team for the Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk. for  promoting this year’s walk in the magazine This Week at the Landings. Not only did Marianne publicize the walk within her community, but L.F.A.O.C. were the winners of the top fundraising team and raised the most out of all the teams. Thank you Marianne for your amazing work!

PS 164 “Teal Day”

On Wednesday, September 20th, 2017, P.S. 164 Caesar Rodney, a public elementary school in Brooklyn, held a special Dress Down Day fundraiser. Students were encouraged to wear teal and bring in a donation in support of ovarian cancer awareness and research.  A group of Amazing Ladies and mothers attended a morning workshop educating about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. The fundraiser was a success, raising $470! Thank you to all the parents and P.S. 164 Caesar Rodney for an amazing “Teal Day!”

Thank you Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership !

The Myrtle Avenue Bid have been fighting ovarian cancer with us all month this September! They helped us by allowing us to participate in their outdoor Community Corner event and had bicyclist wear teal during their Community Bike Ride. They also had a team (pictured below) in our 9th Annual T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run. On Wednesday, September 13th, 2017, Myrtle Ave. turned teal to support National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and T.E.A.L.® Partnered with the Myrtle Ave Business Improvement District (BID). We tied teal ribbons on trees that will be up all month along Myrtle Ave in Brooklyn to spread awareness of ovarian cancer.  Special thanks to the Myrtle Avenue BID team and our volunteers for all their help.

4th Annual Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk

On September 16th, 2017, the 4th Annual Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk in Connecticut took place at White Memorial Conservation Center. Special thanks to Hope Assembly #46, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, for hosting another incredible event. This walk aims to encourage awareness, courage, and strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease while spreading knowledge and raising funds for research for a cure! Participants of our Litchfield T.E.A.L.® Walk enjoyed the day of entertainment along with activity booths and fun activities for the whole family.

Lions Luncheon for Ovarian Cancer Awareness

On Saturday, September 16th, 2017, T.E.A.L® attended the  District 20-K1 Lions T.E.A.L.® Committee Luncheon at the New Life Center of Truth Church in Brooklyn, NY. All proceeds from the lunch went towards Ovarian Cancer research. The event was filled with music, food, and speakers including our co-founder Pamela who gave a short educational lecture. The 3rd Annual Whitesboro T.E.A.L.® Walk

The 3rd Annual Whitesboro T.E.A.L.® Walk in New York took place at Whitestown Town Park on September 16th, 2017. We want to thank Sarah Firsching for organizing another inspiring walk. This walk aims to encourage awareness, courage, and strength of both Ovarian Cancer survivors and the families who have been touched by the disease while spreading knowledge and raising funds for research for a cure! The event included activity booths, a Survivor Ceremony, an exercise warm up, the T.E.A.L.® Walk and more.

Dwell Greenville Fundraiser

On September 15th, 2017, Dwell-Greenville joined forces with B&R events to host a fundraiser benefitting T.E.A.L.® in Greenville, South Carolina. The fundraiser took place at Grenville bar The 05 with guest bartenders present, a DJ, and amazing prizes raffled off. We thank everyone who participated in the event and allowing us to continue our mission of spreading awareness about ovarian cancer and raise money for medical research- over $600 was raised!

Re-Grand Opening of T.E.A.L.® Community Center

On September 14th, 2017, T.E.A.L.® held a Re-Grand Opening of our T.E.A.L.® Ovarian Cancer Community Center expansion. In 2015, T.E.AL.® moved into 533 16th Street, building an office space into a community center from the ground up. Now, our office space has expanded! Conveniently located right next door to the community center, we remain rooted in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In honor of our Re-Grand Opening and to celebrate Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the windows were lit teal and volunteers and supporters were invited to learn more about T.E.AL.®’s growth as an organization and our plans for the future.  To learn more about the services offered at our T.E.A.L.® Ovarian Cancer Community Center year round, please visit our Awareness & Education programs page.

 

Race to the Finish

T.E.A.L.® was recently featured in the Brooklyn Paper by featuring a story on our 9th Annual T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run in Brooklyn. Nurse Who Walks for a Cure

At our 9th Annual T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run in Brooklyn, Josephine Corcoran, subject of the viral video in which Staten Island University Hospital staffers lip-synced Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” to her to encourage and give her support as she underwent chemotherapy, walked amongst her 75 friends, family, and co-workers as Team Josephine. In addition to being an inspiration and viral sensation, Team Josephine raised $2,500 for ovarian cancer research. 9th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run

On Saturday, September 9th, 2017, our 9th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run in New York took place in Prospect Park. This walk celebrates the courage of ovarian cancer survivors and the strength of the families who’ve been touched by the disease, while spreading awareness to the general public and raising money for research! Participants at the walk enjoyed an appearance by actor, Steve Buscemi, The Brooklynettes, Brielle Von Hugel, Ellen Karis, Brooklyn Borough President and Councilman Espinal among many other distinguished guests plus activity booths, the T.E.A.L.® Walk and 5K Run, and much more. Over $250,000 was raised!

T.E.A.L.® Lights the Luna Park Parachute Jump Teal

On Friday, September 1st, for the 3rd year in a row, T.E.A.L.® lit the Parachute Jump in Luna Park Teal to mark the start of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Council Member Mark Treyger made a short speech, having joined community members, staff, and volunteers in the fight against ovarian cancer. As CEO Pamela Esposito-Amery explained to Brooklyn Reporter, “by lighting a monument, it might get women to a doctor earlier and save lives.” The parachute jump was lit for 4 days, prompting residents throughout New York to learn more about what Teal stands for, and learn more about the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. T.E.A.L.® & Luna Park Light the Parachute Jump Teal!

Join us for the 3rd annual T.E.A.L.®  Lighting of Luna Park’s Parachute Jump September 1st, 2017 to kick off Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month! T.E.A.L.® will be holding a press conference at 6:30pm followed by a lighting ceremony, plus T.E.A.L.® volunteers, supporters, survivors, and families touched by Ovarian Cancer will be attending dressed in teal. The Parachute Jump will be lit the color teal until September 3rd, so come out and see our name in lights for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month!

Thursday, August 17th, was not only the last game of the Subway Series but it was also the 6th Annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night at Citi Field!

Both teams united to fight Ovarian Cancer and to support T.E.A.L.®. Over 500 T.E.A.L.® supporters, survivors, volunteers and staff walked on the warning track before the game, turning the field teal and raising awareness to both Mets and Yankees fans alike!

Myrtle Avenue Community Corner

The Myrtle Ave Community Corner in Fort Greene Park takes place every Saturday from July through October. As part of the The Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project, The Healthy Communities’ “Community Corner” features informational booths, demonstrations and giveaways in order to educate the Myrtle Ave & Fort Greene community about relevant health issues. On August 12th, 2017 T.E.A.L.® informed the community about ways to get involved with T.E.A.L.® and upcoming Ovarian Cancer Awareness events, as well as educating residents about the signs and symptoms of the disease. The event also had face painting and cooking demonstrations available for free to the community.

Team Jackalicious T.E.A.L® Zumbathon

On Friday, August 8th, 2017, a Zumbathon Fundraiser was held in Staten Island by Team Jackalicious to support T.E.A.L®. This event included a Zumba class, raffle prizes, and more. All the proceeds from this event went towards the 9th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L® Walk/Run. Girls Night Out Fundraiser at Milk River

T.E.A.L.® is excited to again be a beneficiary for the 3rd Annual Girls Night Out!  Hosted by Marshall Gras Entertainment, the event supports survivors and honors those who were lost to both Breast and Ovarian Cancer, while also fundraising for local organizations (including T.E.A.L.®). Student Interview with our CEO

Desiree, a student studying Health Services Management at Berkeley College, recently interviewed T.E.A.L.® CEO Pamela Esposito-Amery. The piece covers the origins of T.E.A.L.®, Pamela and Louisa’s original vision for the organization, and how this vision has grown over the years. As Desiree wrote, “What started out as two sisters seeing a need for more support that focused on ovarian cancer has turned into an organization dedicated to support as well as research. Citadel Cathedral Church Health Fair

On July 22nd,2017 T.E.A.L.® attended the 22nd Annual Citadel Cathedral Church Health Fair in East New York. Our T.E.A.L.® booth provided vital information to the community about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer, and the fair featured an array of informative booths about healthy eating, disease prevention, health insurance options, and ways to stay active and fit. There was a group Zumba class held during the fair, to get attendees active and moving before they checked out the booths

T.E.A.L.® at New York Stock Exchange

On July 5th, 2017 T.E.A.L.® was honored to ring the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closing bell with members of our T.E.A.L.® board, survivors, staff, volunteers, interns and loyal supporters to promote Ovarian Cancer awareness to everyone at the New York Stock Exchange and all those around the world watching!

7th National Conference on Work & Cancer

The 7th National Conference on Work & Cancer was held Friday, June 23, 2017, at The Graduate Center at CUNY, in New York City. This free annual event explored the issues faced by working people who are trying to balance their cancer treatment & recovery with employment. The topics focused on included: working through treatment, privacy and disclosure, legal and financial issues, networking,  health insurance, body confidence, and more. The event was open to patients, survivors, healthcare professionals, caregivers, employers and anyone else touched by cancer. T.E.A.L.® was honored to be included and provide information to professionals about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Savannah Banana Fundraiser

Let’s strike out cancer together! T.E.A.L.® is excited to announce that there is going to be a night of baseball on July 14th, 2017 to raise awareness for T.E.A.L.®’s 4th Annual Savannah Walk. The 4th Annual Savannah T.E.A.L.® Walk will take place on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017. The Savannah Bananas will go up against the Florence Red Wolves with a game starting at 7:05 pm, held at Grayson Stadium. All tickets are $15, and children under 3 get in for free. Tickets also include unlimited access to concessions for the entire night. All funds raised by this event go towards ovarian cancer research.

On June 15th, 2017, five students from St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy stopped by the T.E.A.L.® Community Center with their art teacher, Ms. Boggiano to view the beautiful window display they created for our windows to help us raise awareness about ovarian cancer. Their handmade artwork makes use of the color teal, which is the color that symbolizes ovarian cancer. The work of these students helps us bring more attention to the presence of our T.E.A.L.® Ovarian Cancer Community Center to the Windsor Terrace/Park Slope Community. A Visit from Elly Mayday

On June 19th 2017, the Tell Every Amazing Lady® Community Center was visited by Ovarian Cancer Thriver and model, Elly Mayday. Elly was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2013 and since then has been raising awareness about this disease by documenting her battle on social media. She frequently posts pictures of her scars, hospital visits, treatments, and inspirational messages, in hopes to educate women on the signs and symptoms and encourage them to seek treatment. It was honor to discuss the fight against ovarian cancer with such a strong, courageous, and truly amazing lady! T.E.A.L.®’s 2017 Youth Ambassador

Congratulations to T.E.A.L.®’s first ever Youth Ambassador!

We are very excited to introduce Kiara Carrion to the T.E.A.L.® Community! Not only is Kiara former Miss New York Jr. Teen America 2016, but she is also a 2 time Gold recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service award, for 400+ community volunteer hours. In addition, she has her own couture line named Kitara, which has been showcased in charity events to raise money for various causes. She is also the creator of Keep Believing, a social media site created to promote empowerment, positive resources, support and motivation for girls. Kiara is an excellent fit for T.E.A.L.®, and we’re are looking forward to working with her as she helps us spread awareness to her peers and community members!

St. Thomas Aquinas Health Fair

On May 21st 2017, T.E.A.L.® attended the annual Church of St Thomas Aquinas Health and Wellness Fair. T.E.A.L.® had a table set up providing vital information to the community about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of Ovarian Cancer. T.E.A.L.® Programs Associate Melissa Belasoto also provided information about our upcoming events and how volunteers can get involved with T.E.A.L.® this summer!

On May 12th, 2017 T.E.A.L.® attended the Community Wellness Fair at P.S. 81. T.E.A.L.® had an awareness table and used the opportunity to spread information about T.E.A.L.®’s programs to the school and community. Teachers, staffs, students from six classes attended.

BALC Annual Community Health Fair on May 9th, 2017

On May 9th, 2017 T.E.A.L.® attended the Brooklyn Adult Learning Center’s (BALC) Annual Community Health Fair. T.E.A.L.® had an awareness table and used the opportunity to spread information to BALC students and members of the local community about Ovarian Cancer signs, symptoms, and risk factors in addition to T.E.A.L.®’s upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

2017 Team Annie Fundraiser

On May 5th, 2017 Tell Every Amazing Lady® traveled to Long Island, NY for the 4th Annual Team Annie Team Fundraiser for the 9th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run. The event was organized by Andrea Silverstein and held in memory of Annie “Andrea” Roberts. T.E.A.L.® handed out flyers and brochures, providing more information about the work that Tell Every Amazing Lady® is doing and how to get involved and also sold merchandise to raise funds for the organization. Teal lights adorned the ceilings of the beautiful venue and the dance floor was lit teal! Music filled the room and News 12’s Christine Insinga kept the crowd going. Tell Every Amazing Lady® CEO, Pamela Esposito-Amery and Andrea Silverstein were even interviewed by Insinga for Long Island’s News 12. It was night filled with a food, drink specials, raffles, prizes, music, and education for an AMAZING cause raising over $3000!

National Conference on Work & Cancer, hosted by Cancer + Careers

On June 23rd, 2017 T.E.A.L.® will be participating in the National Conference on Work and Cancer at the CUNY Graduate Center (365 5th Ave, New York, NY) alongside local nonprofits and research institutes devoted to cancer research and programming. Topics of the conference include health insurance & legal issues, working through treatment, body image & self-confidence changes, and other issues affecting both caregivers and patients. It will be a great educational opportunity not only for those affected by ovarian cancer, but for any individuals or family members affected by cancer of any kind to learn about the resources available in New York City and learn tips for how to tackle workplace and personal issues head on. It is free to attend, and runs through the morning.

Brooklyn College Health Fair

On May 2nd, 2017, T.E.A.L.® attended the Health & Wellness Fair at Brooklyn College. T.E.A.L.® had a table on the east quad, where students, faculty, and other Brooklyn College staff could stop by the table and learn more about T.E.A.L.®’s work and the information and resources available at our community center. The fair featured information on healthy eating, disease prevention, health insurance options, and ways to stay active and fit.

T.E.A.L.® CEO Wins Amazing Ellen Degeneres Experience

On April 26th, 2017, Tell Every Amazing Lady® CEO, Pamela Esposito-Amery was flown out to Los Angeles with a group of other fans to fill the audience seats of the Ellen Degeneres Show for a once in a lifetime experience. Pamela has entered every contest and finally won the “Are You Ellen’s Biggest Fan in the Tri-State Area?” contest. During the trip, Pamela met many amazing people while fulfilling one of her biggest dreams. She had the time of her life and is very grateful for the opportunity. Team Annie 2017 Fundraiser Event in Long Island
